Our Luxury Desert Camps in Merzouga: Tiziri Camp and Sahara Eden Camp

Where you sleep in the Sahara on our tours: what the tents look like, what is inside them and what a night at camp is like.

Quick answer

On our Merzouga desert tours you sleep in a luxury tent at Tiziri Camp or Sahara Eden Camp, on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Every tent has its own en suite bathroom with a toilet and a shower, real beds, heating for the cold winter nights and air conditioning for the hot summer months. Dinner and breakfast are included, and the evening ends with music around the fire under the stars.

Not camping: a hotel room made of canvas

The question we hear most before a desert tour is simple: what is the tent really like? The answer surprises many travellers. Our camps are not shared tents with sleeping mats and a shower block down the path. Each tent is a private room for you, with proper beds, rugs and its own en suite bathroom.

You still get the magic of the Sahara: the camel ride over the dunes at sunset, dinner under the stars, the silence of the desert and a sky full of stars. You simply do it with your own shower, a real toilet and a comfortable temperature in your tent.

Inside the tent: bathroom, heating and air conditioning

  • En suite bathroom: every tent has its own private bathroom inside, with a toilet and a shower. Nothing is shared with other guests.
  • Heating: desert nights in winter drop close to freezing, so the tents are heated. You go to sleep warm, not in a sleeping bag.
  • Air conditioning: in late spring and summer the Sahara is very hot in the day, and the tents are air conditioned so you can rest in comfort.
  • Real beds: comfortable double or twin beds, and family tents with extra beds at Sahara Eden Camp.
  • Decoration: handwoven rugs and a seating area, so the tent feels like a desert suite.

Why heating and air conditioning matter in the Sahara

The Sahara has two very different faces. In winter the days are mild and sunny but the nights are cold. In summer the days are very hot. A heated and air conditioned tent means you sleep well in every season, which is why we choose these camps for our travellers.

Tiziri Camp: small, quiet and run on the sun

Tiziri Camp sits at Takojt, on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. It is a small camp with only eight tents, so it stays calm and personal even in the busy season. The camp runs on 100% solar power and has its own well with a water filtration system.

Dinner is served under the stars, and the kitchen is happy to cook vegetarian and vegan meals. The stay includes the sunset camel ride and an evening around the fire pit with live traditional music. Because it is so small, the whole camp can be booked privately for a celebration, such as an anniversary, a birthday or a family reunion.

Sahara Eden Camp: spacious tents for couples and families

Sahara Eden Camp stands in the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga. Its tents are raised on wooden platforms and decorated with handwoven rugs, each with a private bathroom and a seating area. It offers double and twin tents for couples and friends, and triple and quadruple tents for families, which makes it a good choice when you travel with children.

The camp is built with local materials and uses solar energy. For more adventure in the dunes you can add a quad bike, a buggy ride or a 4x4 excursion, alongside the camel trek.

Tiziri Camp and Sahara Eden Camp side by side

Both camps give you the same level of comfort in the tent. The difference is the feel: Tiziri is smaller and more intimate, Sahara Eden has more tent sizes for families and groups.

  • Night: stargazing far from city lights. Read our Sahara stargazing guide.
  • Morning: wake early for the sunrise over the dunes, then breakfast at camp before the journey continues.
